What Does a Democratic State Executive Committee Woman Do?

Understanding the Role

Core Responsibilities of the DSEC

Core Responsibilities of the DSEC

The Democratic State Executive Committee (DSEC) is the governing body of the Tennessee Democratic Party between state conventions.  While much of its work happens behind the scenes, its decisions directly impact the strength, strategy, and structure of our party statewide.

This is not a ceremonial position. It is a working leadership role.

Core Responsibilities of the DSEC

A State Executive Committee member helps:

  • Shape party strategy and long-term planning
  • Support candidate recruitment and development
  • Strengthen county party infrastructure
  • Vote on party rules and goverance matters
  • Help oversee party leadership and organizational direction
  • Ensure fair processes in primaries and party affairs
  • Represent the interests of their Senate District at the state level

The DSEC plays a key role in building the Democratic bench --- recruiting, training, and supporting candidates at every level of the ballot.

Why This Position Matters Now

Core Responsibilities of the DSEC

Representation for ALL Seven Counties

Recent redistricting in Tennessee significantly reshaped legislative districts, communities, and political representation.  Some communities were split. Others were consolidated.  District boundaries shifted --- altering political dynamics and organizing challenges.

In moments like this, strong party leadership is critical.

When district lines change:

  • Organizing strategies must adapt
  • Candidate recruitment must expand
  • County coordination becomes more complex
  • Communication gaps can grown if not intentionally addressed

The DSEC helps ensure that our party remains organized and effective --- even as district maps change.

Representation for ALL Seven Counties

Senate District 25 spans seven counties. Each has its own needs, strengths, and challenges.

A State Exectuve Committee Woman must:

  • Maintain consistent communication across all counties
  • Attend meetings and build relationships
  • Listen to local leaders and activists
  • Advocate for district needs at the state level
  • Ensure no county is overlooked

Effective representation means showing up, staying engaged, and building year-round relationships.

Building the Democratic Bench

Building the Democratic Bench

One of the most pressing issues in Senate District 25 is the shortage of Democratic candidates on the ballot.

In some races, voters see only or two Democratic names -- and in some local races, none at all.

The DSEC plays a stategic role in:

  • Identifying potential candidates
  • Encouraging community leaders to step forward
  • Supporting down ballot campaigns
  • Creating training and leadership pipelines

Strong infrasture leads to competitive elections.

Why Your Vote Matters

Representation for ALL Seven Counties

Building the Democratic Bench

The Democratic State Executive Committee helps determine how prepared we are ---- not just for the next election, but for the next decade.

In a time of political change and redistricing, we need leaders who are present, proactive, and committed to strengthening Democratic infrastructure across every county.

This is about more than a title.  It is about building a party that can compete, grow, and win.
